Weekend knitting

The turkey is now a faint memory. Desert is being worn on thighs and hips. Niss herd had a great time with the families. In between get togethers I was able to knit a few hats and mittens for the local charities. Knitting continues.

I was able to persuade eldest daughter to join in. She is knitting a small scarf for a child using the basket weave stitch. She wanted to try something a little more complicated. Though there are some minor mix ups in the scarf, I think it is very good for her third knitting project. It will look very cute when she is done.

Local charity knitting

I was going to start posting body parts from my various Christmas knitting and let you guess which piece went to which project/gift. But for now my gift knitting has been placed on hold. I received an email where a few people from our building are knitting/crocheting hats, scarves and mittens for charities here in Lansing. They have a December 15th deadline.

How can you argue when someone needs a hat to keep them warm? I knit, but not because I don't have a hat or mittens - nor because my children don't have hats or mittens. A simple pair of mittens will keep one child or adult warm.

Please, if anyone has a few minutes to spare and would be able to knit a quick scarf or mittens for distribution here in Lansing - I would be happy to add to the collection. I will gladly share my stash of yarns and I have very easy patterns too.

Come on - just one scarf, a pair of mittens or hat... meanwhile... Siblings, looks like birthday gifts will be handmade... and could I teach you to knit? :-)

Family Night

Tonight is family night**, but I doubt we will be watching this tonight. (Drink allert!* And send your children to another room...)

Martin Scorsese's Sesame Street

*means swallow your drink or cover your keyboard.
**Niss family tradition of watching movies/dvds every Friday night for the past 18 years

Escanaba Scarf

I give you the Escanaba Scarf. This scarf was started a few days before the election. I saw the Mistake Rib Scarf pattern originally on 'Wendy Knits!'. I had gotten to a point on all my projects that required too much attention for a busy office and campaign, and I was itching to try this. It is a simple fairly mindless pattern. Just what I needed. I could have pulled out my sock that I was working on, but the natives were shocked that I was knitting a sweater. I am not sure how they would handle a Troll knitting a sock.

I had purchased the chunky warm yarn earlier in the week at the local yarn shop. I bought this with my son and Christmas in mind. I think he will like the dark chocolate yarn with the orange and yellow flecks, the color is too retro for me. The colors look too much like what we were forced to wear back when I was kid (60's-70's) and will never want to wear again. This pretty much guarantees that my kids will love it.

Now that I home and doing everything but studying for the tests that I have Monday and Tuesday - I have finished my Bloomsbury Sweater! All it now needs is the buttons. I also need spring or warmer weather to wear it...

Now I can start a few Christmas gifts. I have two felted slippers to make for my daughters with the perfect colored yarns I found at the Escanaba LYS. I hopefully will get to the nieces and nephews too, but again - they may get them for their birthdays.

Mad cows and fairies

I am nearing the end of my Bloomsbury sweater. I love the kiwi green color of this sweater. Sometimes it looks mossy and other times it looks closer to celery. I have to finish the button bands and knit the collar. You will see that it hasn't been blocked yet. I doubt I will have it done before I return from the UP, but at least it is in the home stretch.

Ram-niss took the photos of Mo and T before they went out Trick-or-Treating. I forgot to show him how to turn on the flash, so they are blurry. But T still looks sweet and Mo looks frightening! Which one went as a mad cow?

We have WAAAYYYYY to much candy around here. I think I will either take it to work or have Ram-niss hide it. (...the candy we passed out, not the candy the kids brought home... that candy is fair game.)
