... and here is where

This is where it will come to a screeching halt. Classes have now begun and the progress you see below is from about two 1/2 weeks of knitting. I only have about 10 inches to go and a few ribbings to put in. My hopes are to have it done by the end of the year.

I will admit that I have been spying more patterns that would be quick and require little thought while knitting.

Knitting in the D

I love Detroit. I also worked in Detroit for several years, and I also enjoyed the People Mover going by window.

DESIREE COOPER: Knitting circle takes to the People Mover rails

Those Cheeky Professors

I had it all figured out.  In spite of classes I was going to join the local knitting guild.  I would just not go to a few of my classes to attend the monthly Tuesday evening meetings. ... or so I thought.  I took a look at the class schedule.  Would you believe that he has scheduled exams on the very same nights as my knitting guild meetings?!?!  Rats.

In the other class I had trouble accessing a portion of their information on the web once I logged into the school system.  After trying my logins and the ones in the syllabus, I gave up and wrote the instructor.  He wrote that I should read the 'welcome letter' he sent and that it contained valuable information.  (Let me say, that answer ranked right up there with "reboot your computer" after calling the work help desk.  I am one of those people that tries absolutely everything I can think of BEFORE I write/call for help.  These types of answers torque me off beyond reason.)  Though I was slightly smug this morning when my email box has other classmates asking the same question I asked the instructor last night.

See, it wasn't just me.

Little Pink Sweater and cap

This one was done in time for the baby shower. The pattern is the Pea Pod baby set by Kate Gilbert, pattern free from Interweave Knits here. Now lets hope the ultrasounds were correct and the little one due in September is actually a girl. :-) Posted by Picasa

I have sleeves... but first...

We have weeds. BIG weeds. Sunflowers have appeared without being planted. We just let them grow - and did they ever!

The one with many heads on it is over 8' tall. I can't get a good photo of it. The best view is from the bathroom, but for some reason I wasn't inclined to take a photo from there.

Not a weed, but a pest... Tiger. He found a bird inside the neighbor's barn.

Now tending my knitting...

This is my first attempt at knitting a Fair Isle pattern and technique from the Philosopher's Wool Company . It took a year to muster the courage - steeks, cutting, many colors... (It also took a break between classes for the time to figure it out.) My sister-in-law made a gorgeous one last year and I have been intimidated since.

Two sleeves are completed. There is a glaring error on the upper sleeve. At the time I was knitting slightly above the mistake I was with a knitting group. And at no time did anyone tell me, "Hey, knob - look!" It would have been easy to tink the stiches then - but no... I was happily knitting band after band. I am not as brave as the Yarn Harlot and will fix it quick and dirty.

Cicada Skeletal March

By Meg

Meg spent a good many hours searching for cicada shells around my friend's farm. Then she placed them in a formation heading up an old ash tree. Although she is a young adult, my Meg has been searching and collecting bugs since she was a toddler.

Mo was more than happy to help in the searching. Posted by Picasa

Lazy summer day

I have proof that at one time my son learned how to knit. It was summer of 05, the kids were watching my knitting frenzie. The girls were the first to ask, then later on in the week my son had to join in. Though the girls still knit, my son hasn't picked up the pointy sticks again.

Welcome to my new digs...

In the process of dinking around with my site. So please ignore little quirks at this time. I have made a frame page so that I can blog new content and still keep my slower changing pages on static HTML pages. The blog section will be easier to update.

I also will add in photos as I get a chance. ... meanwhile... thanks for stopping in!

What's on the needles...

Current Project:

  • Fair Isle - Philosopher's Wool Company - yarn and needles have arrived. I had a false start. Hated the original colors I chose. In the end I switched pattern and colors. Much happier. One sleeve done - working on the other sleeve right now.
  • Little pink sweater and cap for newest Martin member due in September.

Pattern is the Pea Pod baby set by Kate Gilbert, pattern free from Interweave Knits here. Though it is pea and should be green - my sibbling is way too excited about it being a girl - so everything is pink at this time. It took me a while to get use to using the chart - especially with the yarn overs and knitting stitiches together. Learned that I shouldn't think - just follow the count and the stiches and not to pay attention to what stitch is under it. And what do you know???? It worked out great!

Status: 95% done - need to put together.

Finished Project:
  • 7/06 - A pair of felted clogs for me. My first pair was an experiment and they came out great and found that they are very durable. I had to wait for them to wear through before I could make another pair. This time it was colors that I loved instead of what I had in my stash.
  • 6/06 - Little red sweater for newest Martin member born in May 2006.
Pattern is from Knitty.com, Trellis is a baby cable cardie. I wanted to make something a little challenging. Gracie (soon to be big sister) didn't receive any knitted things from Aunt Eunice because she lived in Florida. Now that they have moved up north, knitting can commence!
